What I Do: As a Biometrician at Merck, I have three main responsibilities, project support, departmental work and independent research.

 

Education & Training: Undergraduate and Master's Degrees in China; Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Emory University.

 

Helpful Skills: The ability to multi-task. Technical skills, like computer programming, are very helpful, Also in the bio field, communication skills are very helpful as well, because you have to communicate with people who have different backgrounds, like clinicians, biologists or public health petitioners who don't necessary understand statistics.

 

Advice for This Career: I would encourage them to get as many internships and hands-on experience with the data and real projects as possible. Also attend meetings like JSM, Joint Statistical Meeting, so you can talk with people and get a sense of what they do, as well as to obtain connections with people in the field.
