Women in Statistics and Data Science (WSDS) Conference Travel Award

About the Award

The Biopharmaceutical Section Women in Statistics and Data Science (WSDS) Conference Travel Award has been established by the Biopharmaceutical Section of the American Statistical Association to help students attend the conference. This award aims to recognize outstanding research, academic achievement, and applied project work in the fields of Biostatistics, Statistics, and Data Science. In addition to academic excellence, the award also considers leadership, volunteering, and service contributions.

Multiple awards of $750 each are available.

Selection Criteria

  1. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Data Science, or be enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral Program with a concentration in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Data Science.
  2. While membership in the Biopharmaceutical Section is not required, ASA membership is a requirement.
  3. To enhance diversity of recipients; no more than 2 winners can come from the same university.

Nominations

Students should submit the application materials using this application form. Transcripts (unofficial acceptable), CV, and a summary of developmental benefit (200 words or less) are required as a part of the application.

Applications for the 2026 BIOP WSDS Travel Award should be submitted between July 1, 2026 through July 31, 2026. 

Award recipients will be notified ahead of the conference.

Award Recipient Responsibilities

The award recipients are responsible for providing a current photograph and general personal information the year the award is presented. The American Statistical Association uses this information to publicize the award and prepare the certificate. If a student attends the WSDS Conference, the student should make every effort to attend the Celebrating Women in Statistics and Data Science Reception where they will receive the award in person.
