Nominations Sought for 2027 COPSS Awards
Each year, the statistical profession recognizes outstanding members at the Joint Statistical Meetings in an awards ceremony organized by the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS). Nominations are an important part of the process, and everyone can contribute—from the newest to the most senior members of our societies. By nominating our mentors, colleagues, and friends, we help recognize those who have made exceptional contributions to the profession.

Nominations are being sought for the following COPSS awards, which will be presented at the 2027 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Chicago, Illinois, August 8–12, 2027.
The COPSS Presidents’ Award is presented annually to an early-career member of the statistical community in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession of statistics. It is granted to an individual who has not yet reached their 41st birthday or who received their statistically related terminal degree fewer than 12 years before the nomination deadline and has not yet reached their 46th birthday during the year of the award. Nominations should be uploaded in PDF format by December 15, 2026, using the nomination form.
The Distinguished Achievement Award and Lectureship is presented annually to an individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to statistical methods that have had a significant impact on scientific investigations. The recipient will deliver a lecture at JSM. Nominations should be uploaded in PDF format by December 15, 2026, using the nomination form.
The Florence Nightingale David Award, jointly sponsored by COPSS and the Caucus for Women in Statistics, is presented biennially in odd-numbered years. It recognizes a female statistician who serves as a role model to other women through her contributions to the profession and who has demonstrated excellence and leadership in statistical research, multidisciplinary collaborative research, statistical education, or service to professional societies. The recipient will deliver the F.N. David Lecture at JSM. Nominations should be uploaded in PDF format by December 15, 2026, using the nomination form.
The George W. Snedecor Award is presented biennially in odd-numbered years. It honors an individual whose career-wide scholarly research contributions have been instrumental in the development of statistical theory in biometry and recognizes a noteworthy publication in biometry within three years of the award. Nominations should be uploaded in PDF format by December 15, 2026, using the nomination form.
The COPSS Emerging Leader Award recognizes early-career statistical scientists who show evidence of and potential for leadership and who will help shape and strengthen the field. The award calls attention to their efforts and provides a mechanism for them to share their vision for the field with one another and with the broader statistical community. Nominations should be uploaded in PDF format by December 15, 2026, using the nomination form.

These awards are jointly sponsored by the American Statistical Association (ASA), the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS), the Eastern and Western North American Regions of the International Biometric Society (ENAR and WNAR), and the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC). They represent a discipline-wide acknowledgment of the outstanding contributions of statisticians, regardless of affiliation with any professional society.
