CCD Series: Along Your Career Path in Statistics and Data Science

First 2021 Offering! Early data science careers and the job search process. Friday, April 30 at 1pm Eastern.
CCD hosted a panel of industry, academic, and government representatives to talk about possible career paths in Statistics and Data Science, including tips and insights on the job search and application process.

The ASA Committee on Career Development JSM 2019, 2020, & 2021 Guided Networking Sessions were big successes!  (See the CCD 2019 Blog, 2020 blog, and 2021 Amstat article) ASA CCD are hosting another guided networking social for students and early career statisticians to practice in a friendly environment at JSM 2021. Speakers and topics to be announced soon! During the practice sessions, students and early career professionals will be encouraged to "rotate" to meet and practice with new people - volunteers from industry, government, and academia.  Look for ASA CCD to once again host its successful Guided Networking Session at JSM 2022!

The ASA Committee on Career Development JSM 2019 Guided Networking Session was a big success!  (See the CCD Blog!)  ASA CCD and ASA Gives Back 2020 are hosting another guided networking social for students and early career statisticians to practice in a friendly environment at JSM 2020. Featuring Robert Santos, ASA President-Elect and "pro networker", we will discuss various topics such as introducing yourself confidently followed by practice time. The 2020 event also features Dr. Emma Benn (Mount Sinai) and Dr. Karen Price (Eli Lily) and includes focus on Virtual Interviewing and Remote Working.  During the practice sessions, students and early career professionals will be encouraged to "rotate" to meet and practice with new people - volunteers from industry, government, and academia.

2019 JSM Guided Network Session

Date: Sunday, July 28, 2019 Time: 2:00 pm - 3:50 pm

Outline: ASA Committee on Career Development (ASA CCD) is hosting a guided networking social for students and early career statisticians to practice in a friendly environment. We will have our "pro networker", Sally Morton, discuss various topics such as introducing yourself confidently followed by practice time. During the practice sessions, students and early career professionals will be encouraged to "rotate" to meet and practice with new people - volunteers from industry, government, and academia.

CCD Events at JSM 2017 in Baltimore


1) Professional Development Panel
This year we are sponsoring a professional development panel. Five prominent statisticians will serve as our panelists and will be answering questions and discussing to developing and using non-statistical skills.  The Committee is also co-sponsoring a session with the Section on Statistical Consulting "Challenges and Reward of Major Career Changes". Detail of these two events can be found in the online program.
