Abstract: Mayor Emanuel is committed to leveraging the huge volume of data
collected by the City of Chicago to drive more strategic policy, to
develop performance metrics, and to use analytics to deliver more
effective and efficient
government. In the past year, the City has released over 100 data sets
to the public via the web, partnered with Carnegie Mellon to advance
the City’s use of predictive analytics, and initiated a city wide data
mapping project with Chapin Hall at the University
of Chicago. In the upcoming years, the City of Chicago will continue
to leverage core classical statistics and machine learning for big data
in order to create tools that will instruct preventive and not reactive
policies.
Brett Goldstein is the Chief Information Officer with
the Chicago Department of Innovation and Technology. Brett has a
distinguished history of applying statistics to government. His
achievements include working as the City of Chicago Chief Data Officer,
as well as founding the Chicago Police Department Predictive Analytics
Group. His full bio can be found here.
