Abstract
Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) is a volunteer organization made up of graduate students that provides free professional statistical consulting services to governmental and nonprofit groups. STATCOM was founded at Purdue University in 2001. Participation in STATCOM offers a wide array of benefits to involved students, whether through professional development, collaboration with fellow students, or enhanced leadership skills. The collaborative model of Chicago-STATCOM will pool the resources of local ASA chapters, consulting groups, and universities. Autumn 2008 is the target for Chicago-STATCOM to be a fully functioning organization.
