ASA Leadership Course - Friday March 16, 2018:  Featured in The ASA President's Corner of AmStat News

Understanding Statistical Leadership and Charting Your Leadership Journey

Do you have interest in finding and developing your leadership skills?  NC ASA members can join us for a one day course, part of the ASA professional series, in developing professional leadership skills. The course will address topics such as "What makes an effective leader?" and "Understand the importance of a leadership path."

The Leadership Development course will be a 1-day version of the course featured in AmStat Magazine.
Instructors - Gary Sullivan (Global Statistical Sciences).
Local Leaders - David Banks (Duke University) and Abie Ekangaki  (Head, Global Statistical Sciences - Immunology, UCB)

What is leadership, why is it important for our profession, and how do you develop as a leader?

Much has been written and discussed within the statistics profession in the last few years on these questions. This course will provide an understanding of leadership and its importance, as well as how statisticians can develop their leadership skills with a focus on business/organizational acumen & influence. It will feature leadership speakers from different sectors of statistics talking about their personal journeys and providing insights into how they developed as leaders.

Through personal reflection, group discussion and targeted exercises, you will develop a greater awareness of leadership and chart your path forward on your leadership development journey.

The ASA Leadership Development Course will run 8am-5pm on Friday Mar 16 2018 on SAS campus in Cary, NC by Weston McManus and Fang Chen (SAS Institute).  Course specifics and Registration: www.123signup.com/event?id=hsfgh.  Preregistration is required.

Industry Interest Group:

If you are interested in being part of the Core Strategic Team, contact Sujit Ghosh at sujit.ghosh@ncsu.edu. NC ASA membership is strongly preferred for Core Strategic Team members. The Core Strategic Team is tasked with identifying and executing actionable items, e.g., a list of webinars that would be of interest to NC ASA community particularly for members who are not in academic institutions. The IIG's Core Strategic Team conducted a survey during the summer of 2018 to gauge the interest among our members and the broader statistical community in specific topics, events, and opportunities. All NC statisticians were welcome to take NC ASA's IIG sponsored Statistician Interests Survey!
Survey Results are in! The survey results were summarized in the NC ASA Fall Newsletter, and the full results can be found here. Based on this feedback, the IIG has launched a Professional Development Webinar Series to meet the professional development needs of our community.
