2012 K-12 Statistics Poster Competition
The Nevada Chapter of the American Statistical Association is proud to announce the winners of its 2012 Nevada K-12 Statistics Poster Competition!
This is the ninth competition sponsored by the Nevada Chapter of the American Statistical Association (NV-ASA). Teachers from schools throughout Nevada, who teach data analysis and statistics, engaged their students in this learning experience. The poster competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate mathematical understanding via their imagination and personal interest. In addition, student participants must use all of the mathematical processes - problem solving, reasoning, making connections, and communicating - to share a product that is clear, concise and purposeful.
In 2012, 475 students from 15 schools participated, creating 333 posters. Teachers and NV-ASA members judged the posters against a pre-defined rubric in each of four grade categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. The judging was held on March 24th at Jay Jeffers Elementary School in Las Vegas. Prizes were awarded in the amounts of $72 for first place, $48 for second place, and $24 for third place. All winners received certificates of achievement and plaques were awarded to the schools of the first place students.
NV-ASA wishes to thank all teachers and students who entered posters in the competition, and to the judges for their hard work in determining the winners. All recognized posters, including Honorable Mention, were sent to the American Statistical Association national competition.
