The second annual large scale inference conference is being held on October 18. The first one occurred last October and was organized by Hilda Maibach and sponsored by her company Social and Scientific Systems Inc. The conference is again being held at a movie theater in Silver Springs. The first conference honored Brad Efron for his contributions and featured sale of his monograph that was published by the IMS. The registration fee is very reasonable. I attended last year and loved it and I am signing up for this year today! The conference drew a disappointing total of 80 statisticians even though it was held in the DC area where the largest ASA chapter is located. I drove down last year from Philadelphia. Anyone living between NY and Virginia will find the trip well worth the travel. I am attaching the flyer and Keith Baggerly's talk and paper from last year, so that you can see what you missed.
I will be cross-posting to several egroups so don't be upset if you get duplicate emails. I am only doing this today. Efron was last year's keynote speaker and this year's will be Carl Morris. Microarray data, data mining and big data in general represent exciting areas of research in so many areas, particularly biometrics and biopharm. President Rodriguez highlighted big data in his JSM address this year. The years of statistics is coming soon. This research is challenging and one of the most exciting areas of research here in the early 21st Century. Go to their website listed on the flyer and register today.
