  • 1.  Running SAS 9.2

    Posted 08-21-2012 10:10
    Hi,

I am having some difficulties running SAS 9.2 (just started using it few days ago). Specifically, I used to be able to open transport files, i.e. files with *xpt extension, in SAS 9.1 by double-clicking the files which will take you straight to SAS window. However, in SAS 9.2, it opens *.xpt files in universal viewer which, based on my own reading, only lets you view the variables and observations but does not invoke SAS. It is the same with *.sas files. Double clicking *.sas files in SAS 9.2 takes you to the universal viewer, but without invoking SAS.

I would really appreciate it for any suggestions or advises as to how I can run SAS 9.2 just like I did with SAS 9.1.

    Thanks in advance.

    best,

    Arthur

SAS technical support is pretty good.  I would give them a call or search their website for a solution to this issue.

SAS 9.2 began doing the same thing to me after I installed an additional SAS product & inadvertently checked the Universal Viewer box.  What I found was, if I right-clicked on the file, I would get a menu showing several SAS options including the option to open the file in SAS v9.2 for Windows.  This worked for *.sas files and *.sas7bdat files.  Whether it will work for *.xpt files, I cannot say.

One of my colleagues recently installed SAS 9.3.  When he clicked on his old *.sas files, a window would open up and immediately close again like I've seen SAS do when opening files in batch mode.  And right-clicking on the *.sas file didn't give a list of options.  He did contact SAS technical support, and they helped him through it, and by the next day, SAS was working for him the way it should.

Thanks to all those who responded. I did call SAA tech help. It turned out that the problem can get resolved by running SAS file type manager. You can find it under SAS folder in a folder called SAS New License and Utilities (you need to run it as a system administrator). Click on the file manager, then choose SASFoundation. Make sure all the box are checked, then click ok and exit the file manager. This should take care of the problem I mentioned in my first post. ------------------------------------------- Arthur Yeh Professor Bowling Green State University -------------------------------------------
