I love EpiData and use it often. I find it very easy to use, robust, and stable. It is an excellent way to "enforce" accurate data entry (consistent date formats, spelling, etc), especially if the project involves entry by several different people. Be sure to read the documentation on the EpiData website about limits to the length of the Notes file. This is the file where users can enter free-text comments about the record they are entering.
As for limits to the number of records, I don't know off-hand. I know we use it in our health department to collect data on number of daily visits to 6 different walk-in clnics in our county. We have about 40,000 records so far. EpiData website says, "no limit" I think.
The main trouble, if you want to call it that, I've run into is a little paradigm shift needed among data entry personnel who are used to using a spreadsheet for the task (yuckkk!)
