I belong to several e-groups and want to share their posting protocol so we're aware of other options for reducing e-group email (in response to recent comments on inappropriate use of CNSL e-group, flooded w/email, etc.):
(1) Respond only to the sender who posted the question,
(2) The sender gathers responses (excluding contributors' names), and
(3) The sender posts the responses to the on-line library (or to the e-group).
Thus, the e-group is not flooded with individuals' responses to a question, discussion is not hampered, and responses are available in the library for those who need it. Newcomers may raise an issue that has been discussed, etc. A polite email reminder (from the moderator or other member) just to the sender, directing him or her to the library, is usually sufficient.
I have found this protocol useful (not perfect). I'm not suggesting CNSL adopt this protocol--just saying it has worked for me, and it is the way that I balance getting the information I need to run my business without impacting other members who don't need the information.
If you have comments or questions, please reply to me (not to the e-group).
Thank you,
MJ-
