Dear Members of the Section on Statistical Consulting,
Now is a good time to start thinking about submitting an abstract for JSM 2017. Abstract submission for topic contributed sessions and regular contributed presentations, as well as posters, will open on December 1. If you are thinking about submitting an abstract, please visit:
https://ww2.amstat.org/meetings/jsm/2017/submissions.cfm
This page includes descriptions of the various types of sessions, as well as instructions for abstract submission. Please pay close attention to the deadlines mentioned. Information about the different types of sessions is included below:
Contributed Paper - Oral presentations of 15 minutes each in a session with five to seven generally related papers.
Anyone can submit a contributed paper abstract for JSM by choosing the best "sponsor" related to your topic. The 2017 JSM Program Committee will place your paper in a session.
Topic-Contributed Paper or Panel - A topic-contributed session is planned in advance by one or more organizers and includes speakers presenting on a shared topic. Organizers of topic-contributed sessions must coordinate their efforts through the JSM Program Committee.
Speed Session - A speed session consists of 20 oral presentations of approximately four minutes, with a 10-minute break after the first set of 10 talks. These short oral presentations are followed by a 45-minute poster session later the same day. Electronic poster boards are provided to speed presenters.
When you submit your contributed abstract online, you should select session type: Contributed and subtype: Speed.
Poster Presentation - Poster presentations provide an opportunity for papers with extensive graphic or tabular material to be presented in visual detail. Presenters also receive direct and immediate feedback during their 110-minute session.
If you have any questions about submitting an abstract for sponsorship by our section, please let me know (my direct email address is dean_johnson@wsu.edu). If you are organizing a topic contributed session, please feel free to contact me for feedback prior to submission.
We hope to have a great program this year at JSM, and we look forward to receiving your submissions!
Dean
