    The Tisch Cancer Institute (TCI), a National Cancer Institute-designated center, was established in 2008. TCI plays a key role in the Mount Sinai Health System, which is one of the largest health care systems in the nation, and is a vital component of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The institute is on the forefront of medical and scientific training, biomedical research, and patient care.

    TCI is currently seeking a Master’s level Biostatistician. He/she will work closely with TCI faculty and Biostatisticians of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. This position entails collaborating on several projects with researchers and clinicians across the Mount Sinai Health System to identify and manage datasets, to design studies, to conduct analyses, and to report research findings in order to improve the effectiveness, safety, and efficiency of healthcare.

    TCI provides Master’s level Biostatisticians excellent opportunities to develop professionally, which involves strong mentorship and participation in disseminating research findings through scientific papers and meetings.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with clinical investigators to understand and design aims of research study and identify appropriate statistical analysis plans
    • Data management for multiple research projects
    • Perform statistical analyses, write and validate application programs using statistical software and other programming languages
    • Conduct, interpret, and report analyses of research projects using descriptive statistics, basic inferential tests, and advanced statistical procedures under supervision of senior biostatisticians
    • Research available methods and software options for various projects, and acquire an understanding of new statistical methods and software as necessary

     Minimum Qualifications:

    •  Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics or a related discipline (such as computer science, mathematics)
    • A deep understanding of various statistical methods
    • Experience with regression and survival analysis
    • Excellent computer skills including experience with programming in SAS, Stata, and/or R
    • Proficiency with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently, under minimal supervision and as part of a team 


    Preferred Qualifications:

    •  Two or more years of experience as a Biostatistician, Statistical Programmer or Data Analyst
    • Experience with statistical applications in molecular biology and genetics
    • Collaborative research experience with clinical data
