    OPEN RANK FACULTY POSITION:
FOUNDING DIRECTOR OF VA ANALYTICS CENTER
    DEPARTMENT OF BIOSTATISTICS AND BIOINFORMATICS
    ROLLINS SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
    EMORY UNIVERSITY

The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, in close collaboration with the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Atlanta VA), is recruiting a senior faculty member to develop and establish a new VA Analytics Center to meet growing data management, informatics, and data analysis needs within the Atlanta VA.  The successful candidate will contribute to active methodologic and collaborative research programs using the rich data resources of the VA System and work with Atlanta VA administration to develop and implement a vision for expanding the necessary quantitative, informatics, and data management elements to support these efforts.  The faculty appointment will be in the Emory University Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, allowing participation in graduate training at the masters and doctoral level, while the VA appointment allows application to competitive VA research funding.

While based in the Atlanta VA next to Emory’s campus, additional collaborative opportunities exist throughout the Woodruff Health Sciences Center including the Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), the School of Medicine, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Winship Cancer Institute, Yerkes Primate Center, and the Vaccine Center.  Atlanta has been called the `Public Health Capital of the World’ and is home to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Cancer Society, CARE, and the Carter Center, as well as the Atlanta VA.

The successful candidate will join a rich academic research environment characterized by the strong Emory-Atlanta VA affiliation and have an opportunity to further strengthen the links and research synergies between the two organizations.  The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics currently is home to 26 doctoral faculty and 7 masters level associate faculty members with primary appointments. Research interests include methods for high-dimensional data such as imaging, genomics and electronic health records; survival analysis; quantile regression; categorical data analysis; missing and mismeasured data; causal inference; Bayesian methods; estimating functions; and spatial statistics.  The department collaborates with the Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute (NCATS-supported Clinical and Translational Science Award), Emory’s Center for AIDS Research, and the Health and Exposome Research Center. Department faculty collaborate through individual research projects, the Data Coordinating Centers for several clinical trials, and the Biostatistics Consulting Center. Multiple collaborations exist between department faculty and VA investigators including outcomes research, neurology, and rehabilitation medicine.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or similar field and at least 8-10 years experience as a collaborative biostatistician.  Extensive collaborative experience is essential and experience leading a biostatistical core or unit is strongly preferred.  The position is open on either the Research or Tenure Track.  Successful candidates must have documented success in research, teaching, and service commensurate for their desired rank as evaluated by the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure Committee of the RSPH.  To apply, please send a cover letter stating research interests and summarizing collaborative experience, a complete curriculum vitae, and three reference letters to
