Members of the Section on Statistical Consulting:

Though many of you have just returned from the terrific Joint Statistical Meetings in Miami Beach, the wheels are already in motion in preparing for the 2012 JSM in San Diego 7/28/2012 through 8/2/2012, and I am pleased to be a part of the planning committee for this meeting as the Program Chair for the Section on Statistical Consulting!  As we move closer to the 2012, I wanted to remind everyone that ASA recently put out the call for invited sessions.  Many of you probably read very nice article in the July issue of Amstat News from the 2012 JSM Program Chair about invited sessions (see pp. 26-27).  For those interested in or even just considering proposing an invited session, the submission deadline for proposals is fast approaching-September 7, 2011!!!

Details for submitting your proposal are available online at http://www.amstat.org/meetings/jsm/2012/invitedsessions/.  Our section is allocated several invited sessions for the 2012 JSM, as well as the opportunity to compete with other sections for additional sessions.  As noted on the instructions (at http://www.amstat.org/meetings/jsm/2012/invitedsessions/), a password is required from me for those wishing to submit a proposal for one of the section's allocated sessions; so please contact me at jmahnken@kumc.edu with some draft information (e.g., a tentative title, a brief description, and potential participants) prior to this deadline if you would like to submit a proposal for one of our allocated sessions.

This section has had a tremendous amount of interesting and thought provoking correspondence through the ASA Community discussion panel.  I encourage those considering the possibility of submitting a proposal to reach out to one another right away.  Another good source of invited sessions is from Roundtable session participants at JSM that participated in lively discussions.

I look forward to seeing your many ideas put forward, and hope to see another great turnout among our section membership at JSM in San Diego!

    Best Regards,
    Jon
