  • 1.  Submit abstracts for the Conference on Statistical Practice

    Posted 05-23-2015 23:39

    Dear Members of the Section on Statistical Consulting:

    Abstracts are now being accepted for the 2016 ASA Conference on Statistical Practice (CSP), February 18-20, San Diego, CA, USA. The CSP is a fun and intimate conference that fosters making connections and sharing info with like-minded practical statisticians.

    The deadline for submission is June 25. Presentations will be 35 minutes long and fall into four broad themes:

    * Communication, Impact, and Career Development

    * Data Modeling and Analysis

    * Big Data Prediction and Analytics

    * Software, Programming, and Graphics

    Abstracts may be submitted at Abstract Submission

    Since statistical consulting and collaboration falls squarely within the Communication, Impact, and Career Development theme, I am making a special appeal for abstract submissions that will help attendees develop skills and perspectives to improve their personal effectiveness as statisticians in their roles as managers, leaders, strategists, consultants, and collaborators. Presentations should enable participants to return to their jobs with new ideas, techniques, and strategies to improve their ability to communicate effectively, have a greater impact on their organizations, and advance their careers. Potential topics include the following:

    • Career advancement and development

    • Organizational impact

    • Leadership and management skills

    • Presentation and oral communication skills

    • Presenting statistical results to nonstatisticians

    • Best practices in consulting and collaboration

    • Statistical ethics
