    CORRECTION -

Can I add that a flyer about these events is attached to this email. The events specifically are

    * a round-table discussion entitled "Do you want to visit Australasia", aimed at JSM delegates who are considering visiting or working in the Australasian region

    * a round-table discussion entitled "Teaching Health Policy Statistics in the Pacific Islands", where I will explore the successes (and the lessons that we learnt for next time) with running an ASA-sponsored conference in Fiji in July 2011

    * a round-table discussion entitled "Preparing to Work in a Developing Country", for anyone preparing for a short visit or a long stay in such a country

    * the open business meeting for the Friends of Australasia (an ASA Outreach Group) where we will present an overview of all of the activities that the FoA is involved with, and to engage in a larger discussion

    PREVIOUS MESSAGE -

I would like to bring to your attention four events being organised at the Joint Statistical Meeting this year. Three of these events are round-table discussions jointly organised by Statistics Without Borders and the Friends of Australasia (two Outreach Groups of the ASA), and one being the annual general meeting of the Friends of Australasia. I would particularly like to draw your attention to the round-table discussion being organised by Justin Fisher, which would be an invaluable session for anyone preparing to do any work on the ground in a developing nation (whether this be a Statistics Without Borders visit or otherwise).

I look forward to hearing from you if you have any questions about these events.

    Mark Griffin (m.griffin@adasis-oz.com)
Chair of the Friends of Australasia (American Statistical Association)
