I used to use the Exp scientific word processor all the time, years ago, but switched to WORD & the Equation add in.
Your query reminded me of the Exp scientific word processor & maybe I should go back to it. I recall that it is much easier to use than WORD + Equation.  And its free.  And by now must be much better than years ago.  Definitely will revisit Exp for my next significant writing task

I can't let this conversation close without suggesting the LaTeX pre-processor Scientific Workplace (SWP) by MacKichan Software ( www.mackichan.com ). It will be out of most people's price range but if you're committed to LaTeX it will provide a significant increase in your productivity which will make it worth the cost. It also has the symbolic math engine MuPad integrated into it so all of the math expressions and equations are live. I do all of?? my work in SWP - letters, presentation notes, technical reports, and text books. I only use Word when I have to collaborate with a Word-based customer.

Thanks Paul.  The two Math Type and Latexwere the most frequently mentioned.  I have all sorts of mathematical andstatistical adventures from SPC in a computer assembly factor to expert witnesstestimony in ALJ hearings on Medicare sampling.  I want to write some things upand initially submit to American Math Monthly as classroom notes and then maybeorganize into a little book for math, stat and management science majors as asupplement or seminar source.
