    Hi all,

Invited session proposal submission is now open for JSM 2015. To learn more about the call for invited session proposals, please view the article below:

    http://magazine.amstat.org/blog/2014/07/01/jsm2015proposals/

The Section on Statistical Consulting is allotted three invited sessions, and we may submit two additional session proposals to an ASA-wide competition. The three invited sessions and two competition sessions will be chosen from all submitted ideas by the section's executive committee.

Invited session proposal submission will remain open until September 4. You may want to take advantage of your time at the upcoming JSM in August to plan invited session proposals with your ASA colleagues!

When you are ready to submit a proposal, instructions and a submission link are available at

    http://www.amstat.org/meetings/jsm/2015/invitedsessions.cfm

Please email me if you have any questions about invited session proposals at krlove@uga.edu.

    Thank you,

    Kim

    Hi all,

This is a reminder that the deadline to submit invited session proposals is Thursday, September 4 (two and a half weeks from now). Please see the original email below for more details. I highly suggest that if you want to submit an invited session to the consulting section, that you email me (krlove@uga.edu) with your ideas before submission so that you can receive feedback and increase the chance that your proposal will be selected.

The survey we sent out a few weeks ago has already received about 50 responses (I will send out a reminder about that next). According to the survey so far, the most important topics for people to see in invited and topic-contributed sessions are:

    - Soft skills involved with statistical consulting (e.g., project management, client interaction) [most votes for most important]
    - Issues specific to academic statistical consulting [second most votes for most important]
    - Technical aspects of statistical consulting (e.g., methods, application of statistical techniques, programming) [most votes for first and second most important combined]

A few specific ideas that were suggested to me at JSM were oriented around career, in particular:

    - Good/bad/"would have done differently" career discussion by consulting statisticians far along in their careers
    - Presentations by statisticians who successfully made mid-career changes to be consulting statisticians
    - Advice on being a successful part-time consultant

If you have any ideas along these lines, especially if you know a group of people who could talk on these issues, please think about organizing an invited session proposal! Having put together a proposal last year for the first time, it is easier than you think :)

Please let me know if anyone has any questions at all!
