Hi everyone,
There were several colleagues who are members of the ASA Statistical Consulting Community whose short course proposals for the Conference on Statistical Practice (CSP) were successful.
The competition for short courses was fierce this year and there were many strong proposals which unfortunately were not accepted.
If your proposal was not accepted, please do not get discouraged - your voice is valuable and your message deserves to be heard. There are some things you can do to increase your chances of acceptance for upcoming CSP conferences:
1. Submit an abstract for a concurrent session (this will put you on the map, so to speak, and ensure that your session evaluations are considered along with your short course proposal);
2. Find out who the conference organizers are and make a point of connecting with them when attending CSP and JSM conferences so they know who you are when evaluating your course proposal;
3. Continue to cultivate your reputation as an excellent presenter by offering sessions and courses through other avenues;
4. Choose a topic which will be timely, practical and provide the participants with good value;
5. Connect with someone who presented a course at previous CSP conferences and ask them to act as a mentor and share their own experience with course proposal submissions;
6. Do not give up. Once you get over the sting of rejection, you will realize that healthy competition from other course instructors will help raise the level of your game.
Kind regards,
Isabella
