Hi all,
I wanted to invite everyone to consider registering for one of the Consulting Section's roundtables this August. As of Friday (May 30), all roundtables still had a few seats remaining.

Monday, August 4, PM Roundtable - Eric Vance, Building the LISA 2020 Mentoring Network to Support Newly Created Stat Labs in Developing Countries This roundtable focuses on the future the LISA 2020 program. The goal of the program is to create a network of 20 statistical collaboration laboratories in developing countries by 2020 through education, training, exchanges of personnel, and ongoing mentoring support on statistical topics for the statisticians running the newly created stat labs. If you are interested in learning more or are interested in becoming part of the LISA 2020 network, please consider joining.
Tuesday, August 5, AM Roundtable - Charles Kincaid, What's the Difference Between Data Science and Statistics? This roundtable explores a question that holds appeal to many practicing statisticians, as "data scientists" are more and more in demand with the popularization of Big Data. There were only two seats left for this roundtable as of Friday, so please register soon if you are considering joining the discussion!
Tuesday, August 5, PM Roundtable - Benjamin Goldstein, Academic Collaborative Statistics This roundtable will cover issues that are common among academic consultants and collaborators, including the distinction between collaboration and consulting, managing commitments to both collaborative and methodological research, and prioritizing when it comes time to publish. New and experienced academic consultants and collaborators are encouraged to attend.
Wednesday, August 6, PM Roundtable - Edward Jones, Building Beneficial Partnerships Between Statistical Consultants and Industry This roundtable will focus on the recently implemented Texas A&M partnership with industry and government for the provision of statistical support. There are many benefits to this kind of partnership, and all who are interested in learning about and discussing the implementation, challenges, and opportunities of this unique arrangement for both academia and industry are invited to attend.

AM roundtables begin at 7 am; PM roundtables begin at 12:30 pm. The cost of the roundtables covers the cost of food, and you may consider this a reasonable way to spend per diem (for those of us lucky enough to have this kind of support!). Onsite registration for any remaining seats is certainly possible, but you will want to register in advance to guarantee you will have a seat.
If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to e-mail me at

Thank you!
Kim
