To Statistical Consulting Section,
I have been contacted by an online retailer who would like statistical help to understand their business, predict future sales, and optimize pricing. I recently accepted a permanent position so I will not be able to submit a proposal for the project and, further, it would be efficient if the statistical consultant had prior experience in online marketing. The potential client asks a number of interesting questions which I am sure can be addressed statistically, especially the prediction question. Also, there may be a large enough volume of business to pilot different pricing models and to look for models that maximize profits. Ideally, I would like to forward several names along with contact and background information such as website or CV. I was "cold called" by the potential client and have had no previous experience with them and I have no financial relationship with the company. Please contact me at the email address below if you are interested. Here are a few details...
"We are a company that buys and sells books (mostly textbooks, and mostly online). We have a number of different business segments. Our online portion of the business in particular deals with a lot of data - we sell thousands of books and it is a very competitive market. We are in need of some assistance in the following areas:
- Examining past sales to help predict future sales
- Examine our current complex pricing scheme to help us find a better way to sell more books while still maximizing profits
- A second opinion on some of the financial reports for our various business segments to determine where we need to shift
- Examining data to help us determine the best prices to pay for books
- A look at the profitability of the many sources we buy books from"
Thanks in advance,
David
