Good morning,
We are excited to announce that NC State University's Data Science Academy (DSA) and the NC State Libraries are partnering with the Academic Data Science Alliance (ADSA) and are currently accepting applications for our workshop series Models for Sustainable and Inclusive Data Science Consulting and Collaboration in Higher Education, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The goal of the series is to identify, develop, and communicate successful models for consulting/collaboration in an academic setting, with a focus on power dynamics between tenured/tenure-track faculty, non-tenure track faculty, research staff, and students; funding and sustainability; and graduate student training and education.
This series will focus on identifying and understanding mechanisms for delivering data science research support via consulting and collaboration, as well as developing policies and discussing infrastructure that supports robust, inclusive, and sustainable practices. We will explore the details, potential strategies, benefits, and barriers to creating a sustainable data science consulting service within an academic environment. Together, we will examine broader organizational issues of data science consulting and research enablement models that have mixed staffing (e.g. faculty, graduate students, and professional consultants), home departments, areas of expertise, and funding sources. We plan to share the outcomes of the meeting through an edited volume with articles targeting specific topics; participants will be invited to contribute to the edited volume.
Please visit the workshop website to learn more about this amazing opportunity and to APPLY. Note that travel expenses will be covered for participants thanks to funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. If you have questions about this application or workshop series, please contact us at datascienceworkshop@ncsu.edu .
