On behalf of the Consulting Section, our Student Liaisons Sarah Bird & Jinal Shah will be hosting a "From Classroom to Client: Insights from Practicing Statisticians for Success" webinar. Academic training lays the foundation, but the real craft of consulting is often learned on the job. In this webinar hosted by the Consulting Section, a panel of experienced consulting statisticians will reflect on the lessons they wish they'd known earlier in their careers. Attendees will leave with practical insight into what it really takes to grow into a confident, effective consulting statistician. Please join us Friday, September 11^th at 3:30pm Eastern Time! There will be an option to submit questions for the panelists at registration or bring questions the day-of.

PANELIST BIOGRAPHIES

Ricky Rambharat, PhD, Applied Statistician at Northrop Grumman Corporation

Ricky Rambharat presently works in the Defense Industry (at Northrop Grumman Corp.) after almost 20 years as an applied statistician in the U.S. Treasury Department where he provided quantitative expertise on model risk management and governance issues in the federal banking system. Ricky has published research in financial markets, notably on Monte Carlo approaches to pricing exotic financial instruments. Additionally, he has provided extensive policy guidance at both the U.S. and international levels. In addition to his "day job," Ricky also provides consulting services to select clients that have ranged from natural gas safety associations, non-profits (eg, to develop policies to curb tobacco / vaping), law firms, and, recently, a major chemical engineering company. Furthermore, he actively collaborates with academics to motivate new research avenues for the next generation of statisticians. Related to his research efforts, Ricky also serves as an AE for JRSS, Ser. A.

Robyn Ball, PhD, Senior Computational Scientist at The Jackson Laboratory

Robyn Ball, PhD is a Senior Computational Scientist at The Jackson Laboratory, where she develops statistical methods for high-dimensional biomedical data and consults on experimental design across genetics and behavioral studies. She is also an independent consultant, working primarily with the RSNA on Kaggle-based AI challenges. She earned her PhD in Statistics from Texas A&M University and has since worked across remarkably diverse settings - from predicting "heart age" from ECG data at NASA, to deep learning for medical imaging at Stanford (CheXNet, MRNet), to genomic resources for the mouse genetics community at JAX. Her career reflects how a strong statistical foundation can travel across domains, and she brings that perspective to today's panel on statistical practice.

Steve Simon, PhD, Independent Statistical Consultant & Part-time Faculty Member, Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City

Steve Simon, PhD graduated with a PhD in Statistics from the University of Iowa in 1982 and has worked at two Universities, a federal agency, and a hospital. He also has a part-time practice in statistical consulting. He is quite proud of a website that he started in 1999 that has grown to over two thousand pages, covering topics in statistics, evidence-based medicine, and research ethics.
