    The Department of Statistics at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for the position of Associate Director of the Statistical Consulting Center (SCC), starting July 1, 2024. This is a 12-month fulltime non-tenure-track position at the rank of Academic Professional Associate or Academic Professional (in the case of highly-qualified candidates) with a career ladder.     The SCC is a unit of the Department of Statistics as well as a core unit of the UGA Office of Research. The mission of the SCC is threefold: to provide collaborative research assistance at UGA; to increase the quality of research performed at the University; and to provide education and training to graduate students in the Department. The SCC consists of a faculty Director, an Associate Director, at least five supported Consulting Assistants, and several Volunteer Consulting Assistants.

    Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related discipline by the time of appointment. Candidates will be expected to have broad expertise in statistical applications, excellent communication and people skills, proficiency in statistical programming and software including R and Python, and teaching aptitude. The successful applicant at the Academic Professional level will be expected to have proficiency in teaching, collaborative research, working as a statistical consultant in an academic or commercial environment, and administration. The successful candidate will work with the Director to manage, grow, and strengthen the SCC in pursuit of its threefold mission.

    Responsibilities of the position include managing day-to-day operations, supervising consulting assistants, managing business operations, and engaging in consultations and collaborations with clients in both a direct and supervisory role. The successful candidate is expected to conduct collaborative research that leads to publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals and external funding. Additionally, there is a teaching commitment of one course per academic year, focused on graduate-level topics related to statistical consulting and applied statistics. The position includes expectations to participate in departmental and institutional service activities, as well as maintaining a program of professional development and scholarly engagement with the academic community beyond the University of Georgia.
