Great idea, Rob, and thanks to others for volunteering to help work on this.
I believe the NIH/NLM indeed places more weight on quality and substance of comments than quantity alone. I think we can use this thread to invite comments from this community broadly, and also to recruit those interested in helping put together a high-quality response. I'll reach out to those who express their interest next week to collaborate.

Ryan,
Thanks for sending this to the Statistical Consulting section! I was wondering if you think it might be good for a group of us to work together rather than sending several different documents. I imagine others at Colorado and elsewhere will have strong thoughts.
All for now,
Rob

Subject: Opportunity to Help Shape the Future of NLM's Extramural Research Priorities
Hi all,
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input on the future direction of its extramural research program. This is a valuable opportunity for our community to help shape national priorities at the intersection of data science, AI, and health.
The RFI is open to all stakeholders, and I encourage biostatisticians and statistical consultants to raise our collective voice. Our contributions are essential to ensuring NLM's funding strategy remains grounded in rigorous, interpretable, and impactful methods across the data science pipeline.
Please take a few minutes to review and respond by July 14, 2025. Let's make sure the statistical community is well-represented in these critical conversations.

If you submit a comment, feel free to share key themes or ideas in this thread. I'm sharing this RFI as a community member who sees a valuable opportunity for statisticians to contribute to shaping national research priorities. This is not an official endorsement or representation of any organization.
