    Dear Section members,

Our annual section Business Meeting and reception is August 8, 2023  -offisite- in Toronto.  Terrie, - our Section  Secretary Treasurer, sent out the details and the RSVP. I hope this link to RSVP to Terrie Vasilopoulos' recent post works https://community.amstat.org/cnsl/discussion/rsvp-for-jsm-2023-statistical-consulting-section-mixermeeting-tuesday-aug-8th-6-8pm

The current ---draft---  agenda - below. And some  introductions

The plan is to have breakout groups, as appropriate for more in depth discussion. Foremost on the Agenda will be the discussion of DEI, diversity equity and inclusion. An introduction: Maria Emilia de Oliviera Montaz Rath, is chair of the Statistical Consulting section diversity sub-committee . Maria is also appointed as the diversity representative for the section, and the Consulting Section contact for the ASA Board of Directors (BOD) and for the Nova Collective. The ASA BOD retained the Nova Collective to help with ASA' diversity initiative.

    In Advance of the JSM.

With the capable assistance and leadership of several volunteers, the Consulting section is embarking on developing "role play" training for statisticians. In my role as chair and with assistance from Ryan Peterson we have organized a committee to help organize role play training for the 2024 Portland JSM (next year). The committee members also incorporate role play in their teaching  I will discuss other items on the list below. We are also reminded by Doug Zahn's recent passing, that Doug and colleagues, including Walter (Walt) Stroup and Sandra Stinnet have organized a role play at the 1987 San Francisco JSM (over thirty years ago). Doug for many years used role play in teaching students about statistical consulting.

My thanks to the section officers and others who volunteer to help the section.  In that spirit, permit me to share an attachment to past (2005) ASA President Fritz Scheuren thoughts on Pro Bono volunteering for statisticians. I believe that' is the 2005 Presidents Address to the ASA.

I look forward to  meeting section members in Toronto
