  • 1.  JSM: Any Sessions or Roundtables Planned?

    Posted 12-05-2023 18:31

    Hello:

Can anyone tell me if the Consulting Section is sponsoring and/or organizing a JSM 2024 session on countering misinformation? Please direct me to organizers.

Alternatively, is the Consulting Section sponsoring roundtables?  I'm assuming that any individual can submit an idea for a roundtable and the Consulting Section (program chair?) chooses to sponsor a roundtable from the proposals submitted.

    Thank you!

    Hi Monica,

I'm the JSM 2024 Program Chair for the Consulting Section. Our section doesn't yet have any sessions directly addressing the topic of countering misinformation at JSM 2024. (This comes with the caveat that the topic-contributed sessions are due tomorrow, so I have not looked at those submissions yet.) If you'd like to submit a proposal for a session on countering misinformation, you can still submit your proposal for a topic-contributed session until tomorrow (Dec 7) at 11:59 p.m. ET or as a contributed paper, poster, or roundtable until February 1, 2024. This website gives the descriptions and deadlines for each submission type: 2024 Joint Statistical Meetings - Statistics & Data Science: Promoting Evidence-Based Policy

When you submit, select the Statistical Consulting Section as one of your choices for sponsor so our section sees it when reviewing submissions.

    Hope this info is helpful,

    Haley

Your first sentence seems to imply that there will be misinformation at JSM24.

Perhaps  a case of the missing oxford comma :)

Ha, yep - that prepositional phrase is misplaced. I meant to say "Our section doesn't yet have any sessions at JSM 2024 directly addressing the topic of countering misinformation."
