Dear Consulting Section Colleagues,
I am (pre-) announcing an initiative when I am section chair about "data privacy" . I will be looking for volunteers in 2023, preferably, all volunteers from the Section on Statistical Consulting
Link below is to AMSTAT news - and a co-authored note with Monica Johnston - due to a snafu only my name appears.
The link should open to the September 2022 AMSTAT news. IN the note I describe the background and motivation for an initiative I will organize when I am Section chair. The initiative, working title is "data privacy toolbox" and I intend for a small group of interested volunteers, preferably in the Section to help create a "toolbox" of data privacy materials.
- and highlighting a caveat emptor in the note. I do recognize this may overlap work from other ASA committees. There is no intention to re-invent the wheel here.
Briefly I believe i have discovered a "proof of concept" for de-anonymization of patients in both crown jewel Federal databases "clinicaltrials.gov" and "SEER".
the article with my co-author Monica Johnston, titled "Finding the de-anonymization Needle in the SEER Haystack"
And this is one of my initiatives I will present and propose to the section. I will announce the other initiatives when I am officially section chair.
Thank you in advance
