Mosteller Statistician of the Year

Every year the Boston Chapter presents the Statistician of the Year award to a distinguished statistician who has made exceptional contributions to the field of statistics and has shown outstanding service to the statistical community. In 1997, this award was renamed the Mosteller Statistician of the Year award in honor of the 80th birthday of its first recipient, Fred Mosteller (Amstat News article on Fred Mosteller https://magazine.amstat.org/blog/2006/12/20/sih-mosteller/)

Individuals from academia, industry, and government who have made exceptional contributions to the field of statistics and who have shown outstanding service to the statistical community, including the Boston Chapter, are considered for the award. Members wishing to nominate someone for this award are encouraged to contact Wenting Cheng (chengwt@umich.edu), with a brief description of the candidate's qualifications for the award and supporting information if possible. The nominations will be kept for two years. Nominations for the 2025 Mosteller Statistician of the Year Award should be submitted by October 31, 2024. Following the deadline, the Chapter officers and Planning Committee members will meet to select the awardee.

The award is presented at a dinner that brings together the Boston Chapter community and is followed by a lecture by the awardee.
