New for 2025!
Why Participate in the Mentoring Program?
For many members, the ASA and the SDNS have played a vital role in their professional growth, providing access to continuing education courses, technical expertise, career guidance, and publication opportunities. Building on this success, we’re excited to introduce the ASA/SDNS Mentoring Pilot Program!
Mentorship is a powerful way to make a meaningful impact in someone’s career and life. Whether you are an experienced statistician or just starting out, you can make a difference as a mentor or gain valuable insights as a mentee. Our program welcomes participants from all levels of experience!
- Define your career goals and develop a plan to achieve them
- Improve your professional and technical skills
- Gain access to additional resources and perspectives outside of your organization
- Enhance your networking opportunities
- Share your knowledge and experience with others
How the Program Works
Mentors and mentees will meet virtually each month from mid-April through the end of December. It will be up to the individual pairs if they would like to expand on that. Mentees will take the lead in driving the relationship and setting goals, while mentors will provide guidance, support, and feedback to help mentees achieve their goals.
Mentee Responsibilities:
- Schedule meetings with your Mentor
- Set goals important to you and follow-up on suggestions from your Mentor
Mentor Responsibilities:
- Make time to meet with your Mentee
- Help refine Mentee goals to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound (SMART)
- Suggest activities to help your Mentee achieve their goals
- Provide career suggestions and serve as sounding board for your Mentee
How to Apply
If you are interested in participating in the mentoring program as a mentor or mentee (or both!), please fill out the questionnaire(s) by March 21, 2025.
The SDNS Mentoring Team will pair mentors and mentees by early April, and the mentoring program will begin shortly after. We are planning an in-person networking event at the Joint Statistical Meetings in August and a feedback session on the pilot program near the end of the calendar year.
