A list of Titles, Abstracts, Presenters (Updated on 8/13/2012) has been added to the information regarding our 2012 Annual Meeting scheduled for Wednesday-Friday, August 15-17, at Room 211 Rasmuson Hall at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Dr. Don L. Stevens, Jr., will be presenting a two-day short course on: Probability Sampling for Spatial Domains. The course is oriented toward sampling environmental populations (lakes, rivers, streams, forests, wetlands, and the associated flora & fauna). It's focused on the approaches developed by Tony Olsen & Don Stevens within USEPA's EMAP program, but it covers spatial sampling in general. On the third-day of the meeting contributed papers will be presented in the morning followed by the Chapter's annual business meeting.

We have some room for more presentations if you are interested contact Kanapathi Thiru for details.

REGISTRATION is now open for the 2012 annual meeting for the Alaska Chapter of the American Statistical Association. Early registration rates apply through Wednesday, August 8.

Our meeting this year will occur Wednesday-Friday, August 15-17, at Rasmuson Hall at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Dr. Don L. At our 2011 annual meeting held in Juneau (August 29-31), the meeting location for our 2012 Annual Meeting
was confirmed as Anchorage. Kanapathi Thiru is organizing the meeting and should be contacted for more information (although check back here for more details as they develop).

Elections for Chapter Officers for one current vacancy and for terms that begin in 2012 are now open. All Chapter members have been sent an email "ballot" to vote. If you are a Chapter member haven't received a ballot --- contact Allen Bingham. The deadline for voting is January 6, 2012. The following are the list of candidates for current or upcoming vacancies:

  • Vice President for 2012 (will become President in 2013): Nathan Roberts, USFWS, Anchorage
  • Secretary-Treasurer for 2012-2013: Jiaqi Huang, ADF&G, Fairbanks
  • Member-at-Large (aka Webmaster) for 2012-2013: Allen Bingham, ADF&G, Anchorage
  • Council of Chapters (COC) Representative, Remainder of vacant term of 2011-2013: Sarah Power, ADF&G, Juneau

Our annual meeting this year will occur Monday-Wednesday, August 29-31, at the Centennial Hall Convention Center in Juneau.   Dr. Margaret Short, Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will be putting on a short-course of approximately two days on the general topic of spatial statistics. On the third day of the meeting, Dr. Robert N. Rodriguez current President-Elect of the ASA, will be presenting a talk entitled It All Starts with the Data:  Recent Directions in SAS/STAT Software. Additionally, there will be time set aside for member talks on the third day, and our annual business meeting as well.

The overall Meeting Agenda, as well as Titles, Presenter, and Abstracts for Wednesday have been posted, check out the details on our 2011 Annual Meeting Page (see link below).

The 2-day short course on spatial statistics has reached capacity, and as such registration has ‘officially’ closed for that portion of our annual meeting, but you can check our 2011 Annual Meeting page for information about registering for the third-day of the meeting, and additional details as they develop, and/or contact Sarah Power for additional information.

  • The dates have been set for 2011 annual meeting for the Alaska Chapter of the American Statistical Association. Our meeting this year will occur Monday-Wednesday, August 29-31. The meeting will be held in Juneau this year.   Dr. Margaret Short, Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has agreed to be our guest speaker and she will be putting on a short-course of approximately two days on the general topic of spatial statistics. The specific timing and topic areas for her course, etc. are still be worked out.   Sometime during the 3-day period for the meeting there will be time for talks by our members as well as anybody else who registers for the meeting, and as usual we’ll have our annual business meeting as well. Check back on our Annual Meeting page for additional details as they develop, or contact Allen Bingham for additional information.
