President – Karan Kumar
Karan Kumar is the Founder and President of the ASA Student Chapter at the University of Illinois Springfield. He is an MPH candidate specializing in Environmental Health and brings extensive experience in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology research, scientific data analysis, and student leadership. Karan leads the chapter’s strategic direction, organizes academic workshops, and builds partnerships that support student development in statistics, data science, and public health research. His vision is to create a collaborative community where students gain hands‑on skills, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities.
Vice President – Gurarpan Kaur
Gurarpan Kaur serves as the Vice President of the ASA–UIS Student Chapter. She is an MPH student with a strong background in nursing, public health research, and data analysis. Gurarpan supports chapter operations, event planning, and member engagement. She plays a key role in coordinating workshops, managing chapter communications, and fostering an inclusive environment for students interested in statistics, epidemiology, and health research.
Faculty Mentor – Dr. Yu‑Sheng Lee
Dr. Yu‑Sheng Lee is the Faculty Advisor for the ASA Student Chapter at UIS. He is a faculty member in the Department of Public Health with expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, and statistical programming. Dr. Lee provides academic guidance, supports chapter initiatives, and mentors students in research, data analysis, and professional development. His leadership ensures that the chapter’s activities align with ASA standards and contribute meaningfully to students’ academic and career goals.
