Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all well. Some JSM attendees have come down with Covid, but I hope none of us did.
This is a quick update following our activities at the JSM.
1. We made our case for becoming a section to the Council on Sections. They agreed that our petition is in order and will vote in mid-October.
2. Our topic contributed session was great, and covered an impressive range of material.
3. Ricky Rambharat and I shall work to organize a proposal for an invited session at JSM 2023 on software for text analysis. Please email us if you have suggestions for speakers or software.
4. I would like to put together a short piece for Amstat News on sexy challenge problems in text analysis. Please send me any suggestions you have.
5. As those subscribed to this community know, there is an ongoing discussion about changing the proposed name for the hypothetical new section. If you have opinions, please share them. Our executive committee should make a decision well before the Council of Section votes. I shall set up a meeting for the executive committee soon after Aug. 4 to address this and any other new business.
