Call for Contributions:
Special Issue of Journal of Data Science on
Data Cleaning, Curation, and Integration
Deadline: December 31, 2025
Journal of Data Science (http://jds-online.org) invites submissions for a special issue on "Data Cleaning, Curation, and Integration." High-quality data is the foundation of all effective data science, yet preparing data for analysis and operational use remains among the most challenging, time-consuming, and impactful steps. This special issue seeks to advance both our understanding and our practice of data cleaning, curation, and integration across academic, industry, and public-sector settings.
We welcome contributions that develop principles, methodologies, and tools for preparing trustworthy, well-documented, and analysis-ready data at scale. Topics include (1) statistical and computational methods for data cleaning and quality improvement; (2) principles and best practices in data curation and data lineage tracking; (3) algorithms and workflows for data integration across heterogeneous and dynamic sources; (4) software tools, platforms, and pipelines for scalable and reproducible data preparation; (5) methods and frameworks for privacy-preserving and ethical data preparation; (6) case studies and experience reports from industry or government illustrating innovative approaches to data preparation in practice. Contributions can come from any branch of data science or related fields such as statistics computer science, or application domains. Cutting-edge works in big data, visualization, machine
learning, and artificial intelligence are welcome as well as classic methodological and applied works. The contributions can target any of our sections (Philosophies of Data Science; Statistical Data Science; Computing in Data Science; Data Science in Action; Data Science Review; Education in Data Science), of time-sensitivity or lasting impact. All manuscripts submitted must contain original unpublished work that is not being submitted for publication elsewhere. Submitted manuscripts will go through the regular, fast review process that includes a reproducibility check. Finalized papers will be published online immediately. To submit, please review the instructions for authors on the journal website, with special attention to preparation for the reproducibility check, and mention the special issue title in a cover note. Our tentative deadline is December 31, 2025.
The Journal of Data Science publishes research works on a wide range of topics that involve understanding and making effective use of field data. The special issue will foster cross-disciplinary innovations and contribute to shaping best practices in data science workflows. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
