2025 News

Our 2nd annual student-focused event was hosted at Grinnell College on Friday, April 11, 2025! The event featured talks, a student poster competition, the annual ASA Iowa Chapter business meeting, and a panel by industry professionals. Posters from undergraduate and graduate students studying statistics, analytics, data science, or an adjacent field were invited, and the competition featured cash awards.

The event was organized locally and supported by Grinnell College’s Department of Statistics. The University of Iowa's Department of Biostatistics supported student awards.

2024 News

The Iowa Chapter's first Annual Poster Competition and Business Meeting was a success!

  • Around 50 total attendees!
  • A large group for our Chapter Meeting. Many great ideas were shared.
  • The interim chapter representatives were conferred. Kai, Tyler, Emily, and Sean will continue to serve at least until the next election cycle in the Fall of 2024. See the bottom of this page for more details on your e-board!
  • Three $200 awards were given to students for:
    • Favorite poster (Voters Choice): Ashlynn Perkins, Graceland University
    • Most impactful poster award: Mingyue Hu, Iowa State University 
    • Best poster presentation: Amy Wu, University of Iowa

ISU-NISS Conference on AI and Statistics

 

The Department of Statistics at Iowa State University, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistical Sciences, will host the 2025 ISU-NISS Conference on AI and Statistics September 12-14 at Iowa State University. This three-day event brings together researchers at the intersection of artificial intelligence and statistical science to explore the latest theoretical and applied advances in AI and statistics.

 

The program will feature invited plenary sessions and poster presentations covering a range of topics such as causal reasoning, online inference and streaming data, sequential decision-making, image and shape analysis, geospatial AI, and applications of machine learning and AI in forensic science and survey statistics.

 

A highlight of the conference will be an in-person moderated conversation with Nate Silver on statistics, modeling, and AI. This session is free and open to the public and will take place on the opening evening of the conference.

 

Poster abstract submissions are due by August 15. Early-bird registration at a reduced rate is open now through August 15, with the final registration deadline on August 31.  Please see the conference website https://www.regcytes.extension.iastate.edu/isu-niss-ai-stat/ for additional details.  

USCOTS 2025 was held at Iowa State University in Ames, IA from July 17-19, 2025, with pre-conference events (workshops, research satellite, liberal arts symposium). You can find more information about the conference and its theme, along with proposal submission links, here:
