Research Excellence

RESEARCH EXCELLENCE AWARD

This Award is established to recognize local statisticians who have made outstanding contributions to applied, methodological, and/or theoretical statistics research. Nominees should have an established career in the greater Philadelphia area for at least five years. The nominees should have demonstrated national and international recognition for exemplary scholarly accomplishments (significance, originality, shaping/furthering the field) in the profession of statistics since their terminal degree. This award will be given to a maximum of one recipient per year. Nominees with demonstrated contributions to the ASA Philadelphia Chapter and chapter activities are favorably reviewed. Self-nomination is allowed.


The award recipient will be chosen based upon the following criteria:
  • Outstanding research accomplishments in statistics as evaluated by peer-reviewed publications and other scholarly outputs.
  • Significant impact in the field of statistics by their research activity.
  • Letters of support from colleagues and students/trainees.
A complete nomination package will include:
  • A nomination letter up to four pages addressing the nominee’s scholarly accomplishment, and national/international recognition.
  • The nominee's resume or curriculum vita.
  • Between two and four additional supporting letters. Each letter should be no longer than two pages.



The complete nomination package should be emailed to the ASA Philadelphia Chapter at amstatphiladelphia@gmail.com no later than the announced deadline, usually around early January. Please indicate in the email subject line “ASA Philadelphia Chapter Award in Research Excellence Nomination”.
