We are the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Statistical Association !!!

The American Statistical Association (ASA) is the world’s largest community of statisticians and is the second-oldest, continuously operating professional association in the country. Since it was founded in Boston in 1839, the ASA has supported excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, member services, education, publications, advocacy, and accreditation. ASA members serve in industry, government, and academia in more than 90 countries, advancing research and promoting sound statistical practice to inform public policy and improve human welfare.

The ASA Philadelphia Chapter, first became part of the ASA in 1933, was among the oldest ASA chapters. It was called "Philadelphia Statistics Group" before its members voted to reorganize. The first Chapter President was William. J. Carson, an assistant professor of finance at University of Pennsylvania with a research focused on the Federal Reserve system. The first vice president was Ewan Clague later headed the Bureau of Labor Statistics for 19 years. See the description of our first chapter meeting on the Journal of American Statistical Association (JASA). Today, the chapter has been continuously running since 1970, and it comprises statisticians from the greater Philadelphia including nearby New Jersey and Delaware. Our Chapter members come from government, industry, academia, and beyond. The mission of the Chapter is to serve our members and anyone else interested in the research and applications of statistics and other related discipline. Our annual activities typically include travelling course, webinars, chapter awards, career panels, mentoring program, student recruitment activities, and social gathering. We also support local science fairs and poster competitions and provide statistical related resources for the local K-12 educators.

Currently, the Chapter has approximately 380 members. The Chapter Officers are elected in June and serve on one-year terms.
