Dear Colleagues ,
Any member of the ASA, especially members of the Consulting section interested in running for election to a Statistical Consulting Section officer role ,
please send an email to me (chris.barker@barkerstats.com or my ASA community email) or email the current section Chair (Robyn Ball)

and

- It is easy to join the section if you are not already a member.
Please keep in mind that some of what "we see " of the ASA, in addition to numerous and essential efforts of the ASA headquarters staff., arises from the coordination of efforts by a very large group of ASA member volunteers. The JSM with as many as 5,000 or more statisticians in attendance is an excellent example.
As to the importance of volunteering - I recommend locating and reading 1) Fritz Scheuren's 2005 ASA presidential speech and 2) Fritz's interview (copies of each attached to this email).
On a personal consulting note, an initiative that one of the current section officers, Ryan Peterson and colleagues, is actively involved with and "near and dear" to my heart is "Role Play" for teaching consulting skills. The tools and techniques of role play were inspired and extensively studied by Doug Zahn. One course by Zahn/ Boen, is listed in the preceding Section history poster bullet for 1983
-thank you all
--Chris
