The Royal Statistical Society History of Statistics and Quality Improvement Sections are hosting a joint celebration of the 100th birthday of Walter Shewhart's invention of Statistical Process Control and the control chart. There will be four talks followed by a discussion:
· Penny Reynolds (ASA History of Statistics SIG, RSS History of Statistics): Walter Shewhart and a Century of the Control Chart -Sources and Evolution of SPC
· John Aldrich (RSS History of Statistics) Shewhart's Links to RSS
· Jonathan Smyth-Renshaw (RSS Quality Improvement Section) What was Shewhart's intent for SPC?
· Roland Caulcutt (RSS Quality Improvement Section) Shewhart charts aren't always suitable.
