Bylaws of the Alabama Chapter of the American Statistical Association

Section 1. Dues. Dues shall be set by the Executive Committee.

Section 2. Scheduling of Elections.  Terms of office and elections shall be staggered in order to provide continuity of leadership.  Elections for President and Treasurer shall take place in even-numbered years.  Elections for Vice President and Secretary shall take place in odd-numbered years.  In the event that any Office becomes vacant more than two months before a regularly scheduled election for that position, the acting Executive Committee shall appoint a replacement.

Section 3. Nomination of Officers.  The President shall nominate candidates for open Officer positions.  The Officers should be employed at different locations (preferably half from Alabama and half from Mississippi) in order to ensure diverse representation in leadership.  Prospective candidates should contact the Executive Committee to be considered. 

Section 4. Duties of Officers.   The President shall preside over the annual meeting, all other meetings of the Chapter, and meetings of the Executive Committee.

The Vice President shall preside in the absence of the President and shall assist in the planning of the annual meeting. In the event of the resignation or incapacity of the President, the Vice Presidents shall succeed to the Presidency.  The Vice President will co-Chair any committees or task forces created by the President or Executive Committee.

The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the annual business meeting and such other meetings as directed by the President and shall maintain correspondence between the Chapter membership and the American Statistical Association, including updates to the Chapter website.

The Treasurer shall keep the roll of members of the Chapter, receive and disburse Chapter funds, and maintain records of Chapter finances.

The Chapter Representative to the ASA Council of Chapters shall represent the interests of the Chapter in the annual meetings of the Council of Chapters of the American Statistical Association and shall give an annual report on the activities of the Council and the Board of Directors of the American Statistical Association to the membership or the Chapter.

Section 5. Meeting Minutes. Minutes of the annual business meeting will be made available to chapter members on the Chapter website.

Section 6. Committees and Task Forces. The Vice President will co-Chair any committees or task forces.  Such committees may include a Prizes and Awards Committee, for example, to judge student research abstracts for presentations at annual meetings and to administer any financial awards.

Section 7. Changes in Bylaws. Bylaws may be changed by majority vote at any annual meeting, in accordance with the restrictions and procedures set forth by the Chapter Constitution.
