Faculty Liaison
Dr. Amei Amei
Her research focuses on solving scientific problems raised in areas of population genetics and mathematical biology using probability theory and statistics methodology. She is interested in deriving an application of Poisson random field to aligned DNA sequences of closely related biological species to make inference about various genetic parameters such as mutation rate, selection coefficient, and species divergence time. She is also interested and working on a possible extension of the Poisson random field model to cancer detection.
Currently, Dr. Amei is on a sabbatical at Yale.
President
Michael R. Schwob
He is an undergraduate student majoring in economics and mathematics. His research interests are the application of statistics to population genetics, tourism economics and marketing, and sample methodology. As founder and president of the UNLV ASA student chapter, he acknowledges that statistics is applied in every industry and continues to grow in importance and availability. Additionally, he is concerned with ethical statistic practices and hopes to decrease ambiguity in the field of statistics.
Since this student chapter was recently founded, the following officer positions are open: Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Graduate Representative.
Any UNLV student or faculty that is interested in joining should contact Michael Schwob or Dr. Amei at schwom1@unlv.nevada.edu or amei.amei@unlv.edu, respectively.
