    Dear Colleagues,

The University of Connecticut's Introduction to Data Science course (STAT3255/5255), taught by Jun Yan, is hosting a virtual showcase of student projects featuring data from the New York City 311 requests. The event is part of the New York City Open Data Week (https://2023.open-data.nyc/), which promotes the use of open data to improve people's lives.

The workshop will be held on Monday, March 13th, 2023, from 2 pm to 3 pm EST, as a Zoom webinar. Selected groups of students will present their data preparation, data visualization, and data analysis works, providing insights into important issues related to civic engagement with the 311 requests data.

The course's class-notes, co-developed by the professor and the students, are publicly available at https://statds.github.io/ids-s23/

The virtual event is free, but RSVP is required. Attendees can register online at https://2023.open-data.nyc/event/data-science-at-uconn-with-nyc-open-data/. The event is open to everyone with an interest in statistics, data science, and education. For more information, please contact me at jun.yan@uconn.edu.
