As you reflect on your teaching during this holiday season, considering what went well last term and what needs improvement, you may find inspiration in the latest issue of the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education (JSDSE), which offers resources to enhance various aspects of teaching statistics and data science to students from a wide range of majors and application areas.
The January 2025 issue of the Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education (JSDSE) features articles addressing data science education strategies in the Earth and the Health sciences by Nathan A. Quarderer et al. and Esther Drill et al., available at https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2362886 and https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2362150. Anna Khalemsky et al. discuss the data science curriculum for non-STEM majors at https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2320218, while André Coners et al. cover a specific area of that curriculum at https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2334408. Resources for data science and statistical literacy aimed at high school learners are shared by Jo Boaler et al. (https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2333735) and Shunya Koga (https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2334903). Finally, strategies and resources catering to the statistics and data science education needs of various educators are provided by Grace Pai (https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2321241), Silvia Heubach and Tuyetdong Phan-Yamada (https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2407781), Amir Rastpour and Abraham Amini (https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2319152), and Beth Chance et al. (https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2333736). The January 2025 issue also includes an editorial that highlights the papers and the elusive change of names chosen for our discipline from science of data to data science (see https://doi.org/10.1080/26939169.2024.2426950).
By familiarizing yourself with the JSDSE's content, its Aims and Scope, as well as its submission guidelines and policies, many of you might realize that this journal is the ideal platform to share your innovative pedagogical approaches for teaching specific statistics and data science concepts or methods at your institution-whether it be at the graduate, undergraduate, school, national statistical office, or other levels.
If you would like to receive updates about the JSDSE and notifications of our joint CAUSE/JSDSE webinars, or if you wish to share feedback on your experience with the journal, please feel free to email me at jsanchez@stat.ucla.edu . Most importantly, no matter how advanced the statistics and data science course or concept you are teaching, if you have an educational approach or resource that could help others enhance their teaching of that course or concept, don't hesitate to consider the JSDSE as the platform to share it.
