    Dear all,

    The New England Statistics Symposium (https://symposium.nestat.org/index.html Click to follow link." target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://symposium.nestat.org/index.html) has two student award competitions: the student paper awards and the student poster awards. The application deadline is May 6, 2024. The conference is being hosted by University of Connecticut from May 20th to 24th.

    Student paper submitters will be given a slot to present their work at the conference; the presentation may be either in-person or remote. Student poster submitters are required to present in-person at the conference.

    STUDENT AWARDS

    Student Research Awards (Sponsored by MassMutual)

    Students are encouraged to submit papers for consideration of NESS Student Research Awards, sponsored by MassMutual. NESS Student Research Awards have a long history. Winners will be selected by the NESS Student Research Awards committee based on the overall quality of the research, and they will be acknowledged at the symposium and will receive a plaque in honor of their accomplishments.

    The paper must not be accepted or in print for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The student must be the first author of the paper. Award winners from previous years are not eligible for another award. Application materials include

    • CV
    • Paper (blinded and unblinded versions)
    • Letter from a faculty advisor confirming that the submitter is both a student and first author of the submission. This letter can either be attached as a pdf along with the submission, or sent as an email to neil.spencer@uconn.edu with subject heading "[NESS Student research award]".
    • Stating a choice for in-person or remote presentation.

    The deadline for submission is May 6, 2024. More information on previous award winners can be found on the NESS Student Research Awards page.

    Student Poster Awards

    Students are encouraged to submit posters for consideration of NESS Student Poster Awards. Application materials should be submitted through the following form https://forms.gle/XhyVUwkfciq9sRTi9 Click to follow link." rel="noopener">https://forms.gle/XhyVUwkfciq9sRTi9, no later than May 6, 2024. If the abstract is accepted, students will be notified via email by the committee with further instructions for the poster session. More information on previous award winners can be found at https://nestat.org/posterawards/.

    Note:

    Each student is allowed to submit a paper for consideration of the student research award and at the same time to submit a poster for consideration of the student poster award. However, the student will not be eligible for consideration of the student poster award if they are a winner of the student research awards.
