    Posted 3 days ago

The Chicago Chapter ASA is hosting a Spring Workshop on New Developments in Classification and Regression Trees and Forests.

Who: Professor Wei-Yin Loh, University of Wisconsin-Madison

    What: Hands-on Workshop with Lunch

Where: 35 W Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601 (Leo Burnett Building)

    When: Thursday, April 23, 2026, 9am-4pm

Tree-based approaches such as traditional CART™ produce interpretable models but can fall short in accuracy. Developments such as Random Forests improve accuracy but can lack interpretability. Professor Loh presents methods that combine accuracy and interpretability while featuring good properties such as unbiasedness in predictor selection and accommodating missing values in the predictors. The workshop presents real examples from different subject domains including health records, consumer expenditure survey data, and vehicle crash test data.
