    A webinar introduction to the 2025 CSAS Data Challenge is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 7-8pm ET.  If you are interested in attending the webinar, please register for the data challenge by Monday, October 28. Registrants will receive a link before the event that they can share with their teammates, faculty advisors, etc.  

    If you are a professor interested in attending the webinar, and do not yet have students registered, please contact Brian Macdonald (brian.macdonald@yale.edu).

    Before the webinar, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the data challenge and the data provided so that you can come with questions. We will briefly introduce the problem but will spend most of the time answering any questions you may have.   

    A recording will be provided after the event.

    We are pleased to announce the 2025 Connecticut Sports Analytics Symposium (CSAS) Data Challenge. Participants will focus on using new data on bat speed and swing length to analyze some aspects of the pitcher/batter interaction in Major League Baseball. Finalists will be invited to present at the 2025 CSAS on April 11-12, 2025. Winning teams will have the opportunity to showcase their team's work to data scientists in the baseball industry. 

    The challenge is open to students only. Please register for the data challenge by December 1, 2024, so that we can get a headcount for planning purposes. The submission deadline is January 15, 2025, and finalists will be notified by February 15, 2025. More details can be found here: https://statds.org/events/csas2025/challenge.html. Professors and students are encouraged to use the data challenge as a course project in statistics or data science in Fall 2024.
     
    The 6th CSAS (formerly UCSAS) will be held on April 11-12, 2025, at Yale University. Please contact Brian Macdonald (brian.macdonald@yale.edu) if you are interested in joining the poster judging team or sponsoring the event. Registration for the conference will be available at a later date.

    Hi All,  

    We have a few updates for the 2025 Connecticut Sports Analytics Symposium (CSAS) to start the new year! As a reminder, the 6th CSAS (formerly UCSAS) will be held on April 11-12, 2025, at Yale University in New Haven, CT.  

    Keynote speakers. We are very excited to announce two of our keynote speakers for the 2025 CSAS:

    Registration. Registration for the 2025 Connecticut Sports Analytics Symposium is now open! Please see our Registration Page for details. You will have the option to register for the workshops, the conference, or both.  Please contact Emily Hau (emily.hau@yale.edu) if you have any questions about registration. 

    Abstract submission.  If you are interested in giving a presentation or poster presentation on your work at CSAS, please consider submitting an abstract.  There is an option to do this as part of the registration process. Please see our Registration Page for details. The deadline for presentations is February 1. The deadline for posters is March 23. Please contact Greg Matthews (gjm112@gmail.com) if you have any questions about abstract submission.   

    SponsorshipWe have a variety of sponsorship opportunities. Please contact Emily Hau (emily.hau@yale.edu) if you are interested in sponsoring the event.   

    Venue. Please see our Venue page for information about the venue, travel, lodging, parking, shuttle service, childcare/eldercare, and other accommodations. 

    Data Challenge Judging – Final Call! If you are interested in judging the first round (remote) or final round (in-person, during the CSAS poster session) of the data challenge, please contact James Hyman (jahyman@connecticutsun.com) by January 15. Team advisors are encouraged to volunteer - we will make sure that you are not assigned teams from your institution.
