Chief Statistician of the US Karin Orvis shared the following on Tuesday, August 30.
Steve
Good morning,
Earlier this Summer I announced the start of the formal review process for OMB's statistical standards for collecting race and ethnicity data. Today I'm happy to provide an update on that process, including the launch of public listening sessions. The Interagency Technical Working Group of Federal Government career staff that I convened to advise OMB will host virtual, bi-monthly listening sessions to hear directly from members of the public starting Thursday, September 15, 2022.
You can learn more about the listening sessions and other ways to participate in the review process by reading my most recent update, available here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/briefing-room/2022/08/30/omb-launches-new-public-listening-sessions-on-federal-race-and-ethnicity-standards-revision/. The update reiterates the objective, transparent, and thorough nature of the formal review process, and also highlights how communities' input will be an essential part of the process.
To schedule a listening session or if you have any questions, please send an email to my office, OIRA's Office of the Chief Statistician, at Statistical_Directives@omb.eop.gov.
Best,
