Hello everyone,
I'm excited to announce that the ASA Section on Statistics and Data Science Education will host the 7th Preparing for Careers in Teaching Statistics and Data Science Workshop! The workshop will take place immediately preceding JSM 2024 at Oregon State University, on Saturday, August 3, between 8am and 4:30pm PT. Preparing to Teach is designed for graduate students or recent graduates (M.S. or Ph.D.) interested in careers whose focus is teaching statistics and data science.
The workshop promotes interaction, networking, and community building among recent and soon to be PhDs in Statistics, Data Science, and relevant fields who are interested in academic and teaching focused careers. The workshop provides participants with valuable insights from leaders in the field for a variety of topics, including teaching-focused careers, teaching introductory statistics and data science, and equity-focused teaching. There will be opportunities for interaction and hands-on experience with active learning and computing technologies. More details and the tentative agenda can be found at preparingtoteach.org.
Applications should be submitted by filling out the form at preparingtoteach.org/apply by May 1, however, we will review applications as they come in and will try to let you know as soon as possible after your submission. If we have more applications than we can support, priority will be given to graduate students who finished or will be finishing their program between Spring 2024 and Fall 2026.
